My name is Donna Caldwell and I have the privilege of being the owner of L’amour, a successful bridal business based in South Shields. I fell into my career through unexpected redundancy in 2004; all I had going for me was steely determination, talent, passion and self belief. With an almighty leap of faith I remortgaged my family home the rest as they say is history.
One of the smartest business decisions I made was to enter the WIN Business Awards. I entered the North East Woman Entrepreneur of the year award in 2006 and came Runner Up in Best Newcomer Category. The whole process demonstrated just how far we have come and it proved to be invaluable to my work colleagues as they felt a real sense of achievement. It opened many doors having gained such an accolade and gave us the confidence to strive to be the best in the industry without feeling ashamed or embarrassed about our success.
We then entered the prestigious STEP Awards ( South Tyneside Enterprise Partnership) in the category of Excellence in Customer service in July 2008. What we were not aware of at the time was that many of our customers had also voted for us too. Not only were we shortlisted but we actually won the category outright!! My team work so hard and they were elated when we won. Further success followed later that same year as we also entered the WIn Business Awards for a second time and beat stiff competition to come Runner Up in the best Retailer Category.
This is only the beginning so watch this space! We intend entering more of the local and National Bridal Awards and hopefully we will continue to make South Tyneside Proud.
